beyond the green: collective of middlebury voices

a student-run publication that seeks to provide space for voices that are not being heard on our campus. we are grounded by politics that are radical, anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-classist, anti-homophobic, anti-ableist, and anti-transphobic (against all forms of oppression) and that reject the structural neo-liberal paradigm that characterizes middlebury college and its official publications

We want to acknowledge other blogs that we were inspired by.

Fully Present: Earlham’s Underground Newsletter was a huge inspiration as a similar independent, politically-minded publication.

We were also inspired by Oberlin’s Independent Student News Website: Fearless and Loathing.

Most importantly, we want to recognize the GADFLY, which was a radical publication active at Middlebury College in 2011-2012. Like beyond the green, the GADFLY was radically political, and sought to publish opinions and voices that were unpopular with our institution. As students of four year colleges, we are always at risk of reinventing the wheel: initiatives can and do get dropped when the students that lead them graduate. We hope that by linking ourselves to the GADFLY, we both honor their previous foundational work and remind ourselves that we will have to work to upkeep this new publication. What is written on the GADFLY is still relevant, so please read.
