beyond the green: collective of middlebury voices

a student-run publication that seeks to provide space for voices that are not being heard on our campus. we are grounded by politics that are radical, anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-classist, anti-homophobic, anti-ableist, and anti-transphobic (against all forms of oppression) and that reject the structural neo-liberal paradigm that characterizes middlebury college and its official publications

Dear Middlebury

Dear Middlebury,

In my few years here, you have taught me so much. You taught me the system I once valued was never meant for me. You taught me to love myself because you didn’t. You taught me that this double life is almost necessary to see any change. You taught me that despite all the shit thrown my way, I had to find a way through it. When I arrived, I felt I had “made it” and “escaped.” I quickly realized, I hadn’t and I never should. I have learned how to appreciate myself and more importantly others. I have never felt so strongly committed to everyone around me. I have never felt so tired but yet so powerful. You taught me that my mission is to go back and create the change I seek. You taught me to never lose sight of what I came here for. You ignited my fire, and it’s not burning out any time soon. This flame will never be satisfied. I will either burn myself out, or burn down the institutions that have held back my people for centuries. That remains to be seen. But in conclusion, you have been a place in which I never felt so alone, a place I never felt so exhausted, a place that I never felt so loved, and a place I never felt I could learn how to rewrite our history. So, I thank you Middlebury.
