a student-run publication that seeks to provide space for voices that are not being heard on our campus. we are grounded by politics that are radical, anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-classist, anti-homophobic, anti-ableist, and anti-transphobic (against all forms of oppression) and that reject the structural neo-liberal paradigm that characterizes middlebury college and its official publications
Over the course of the fall semester, students collected a compilation of memos “in an effort to inform the incoming President, Laurie L. Patton, of the conscious effort and passion with which students engage with this community.” These 12 statements reflect the work of students passionate about racial justice, environmental justice, LGBTQ student life, and food justice issues, to name a few. The work of all of these student iniitatives combined aim to create a Middlebury community that is more inclusive for all of its members, as well as to strengthen our ties to our broader Vermont community.
All of us at beyond the green are very excited to share this brief and highlight a sample of the amazing work that is being done already. We hope that its contents further discussion and inspire action.
